Headquarters Air Education and Training Command (AETC)
Brig. Gen. William A. Spangenthal is the Director of Plans, Programs, Requirements and Assessments, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command (AETC), Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. He assists the AETC Commander in planning and programming $6.5 billion annually supporting 60,000 personnel across 22 bases charged with recruiting, training, and educating for the United States Air Force and our international partners. He develops the Education and Training Core Function Support Plan and AETC’s inputs to the Program Objective Memorandum, leads AETC Strategic Planning, manages flying training and technical training operational capability requirements and oversees the Air Force’s only studies and analysis squadron. General Spangenthal graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1992. He has commanded at the squadron, expeditionary group, and wing levels. Additionally, he has held a variety of joint, major command and headquarters staff positions. General Spangenthal is a command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours in the T-37, T-38, C-12, KC-135 and C-17. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Director, Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Executive Action Group, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.
